Theme
Revival
Objective
Students will learn that they need to seek after God daily if they are going to be renewed or revived to the point that their soul is on fire for Him.
Warm Up
Treasure Hunt – Have a treasure hunt that requires the students to find note cards with different aspects of who God is with Scripture that speaks to it. This will help set the idea of “seeking after God” and maybe even give them some more insight into who God is. The other ideas involve catching stuff on fire – and that can’t end well in student ministry.
The Song
As the song plays, have the students write down what they think the song is saying. Then, when the song has ended, ask them to share their thoughts.
Transition
Discuss:
• How could you tell if a person had his or her “soul on fire”?
• What helps people get to that point in their faith?
• Would you say that your soul is on fire? Why or why not?
Bible Study
Read 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 and Jeremiah 20:9. The Bible says that we are a new creation in Christ. How often though do we live like it? Most believers sometimes get a “spiritual high” – but like fog it is here one minute and gone the next. It is hard for us to say that our souls are on fire for Christ.
Jeremiah says that keeping the message of God inside is like having a fire burn within him that he just cannot contain. As new creations in Christ, this should be all of our stories. We should be so excited about what Christ has done in our lives that we are “on fire” for Him – the moment we try not to talk about it should be the moment that we feel we are just going to burst.
Because of the work that God has done in us through Christ and His reconciling us to God, we are now ambassadors for Christ and the Gospel message. It should burn within us just like God’s message burned in Jeremiah.
Discuss:
• Have you ever had a secret that you felt you just had to tell?
• What happened? Did you tell? Who? Why?
• Why do we try to keep God’s message a secret?
• Why aren’t we just burning to tell the story of Christ the way we are with secrets?
• What stops us from telling?
Wrap Up
We have been called to be ambassadors of the greatest message ever. God has made us new and for that we should be telling everyone. The reality is that we don’t. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.” We are fully equipped to live with souls that are on fire for Christ. Don’t be extinguished by others, but be ignited by the power of God in your life!
