Objective
For students to understand that God’s love is never changing and always present.
Warm Up
Create a sweet gift box and do a hands-on competition where everyone who wants to win what is in the box must keep one hand on the box until there is only one person left with his or her hand on the box. That person is then declared the winner. This contest could last through the whole lesson – let it! If multiple people have their hands on the box at the end of the meeting, then draw a name out of a hat or something.
Transition
Explain that just like the students who want the prize in the box, God loves us so much and wants a relationship so much that His love is unchangeable – He will never take His hand off of us—that is how much He loves us.
The Video
Note: Chris initially wrote this song for his wife. We felt it really shared a powerful student ministry perspective on God’s love. Thanks, Chris, for allowing us to expand your initial thoughts in this Leader Guide and Student Guide.

Bible Study
Many young people face tough situations that leave them feeling unloved, alone, and abandoned by society and maybe even their families. That void that is created, that emptiness that cannot seem to be filled, does not have to remain unfilled. For someone who feels unloved and alone, understanding that God above loves them so much and will never leave them or forsake them can be difficult.
Romans 8:38-39 says that there is absolutely nothing that can separate us from the love of God. However, as people, we have a responsibility to accept God’s gift of love and forgiveness. Once that relationship has been formed, nothing can separate His love from your life.
Just like the box with the prize that the students have kept their hands on because they want it so bad, God also longs for a relationship with you. You are His prize and He will never remove His hand from you.
Discuss:
- What are you willing to do for someone that you love?
- Are there things that could cause you not to love someone anymore?
- Why can humans operate from conditional love?
- How would you describe God’s love to someone who knows nothing about it or who comes from a background where love has continuously failed them?
Wrap Up
God’s love is solid! It is hard to explain, other than His love is unchangeable and never ending. Although we do not all understand love the same and may have been loved differently by those around us, God’s love for us is all the same. He loves us so much that He gave His only Son as the sacrifice for all of our sins.
No matter how bad you may have been or think you are, God’s love for you is just as strong as for someone you would label a good person. God has His hand on you. He wants you to be His prize and He will never remove His hand from you until you are His.
