Theme(s): God's: Attributes
Theme
God’s Attributes
Objective
Students will learn about some of God’s attributes, such as His power.
Warm Up
Begin by listing all the attributes you can think of for God. What are some things that make you think of God’s nature/attributes?
Transition
When we think of God, maybe we first think of His great love for us, or His forgiving nature. Maybe we see the colors of the sunset, or sit by a quite stream and think of God’s peace. Maybe we think of His great might and power when we look at the ocean or witness a mighty thunderstorm.
The Song
Elevation Worship Band tackles some of God’s attributes in their song “Unstoppable God.”
Transition
What are some of the attributes/characteristics of God that are mentioned in this song? In this song, Elevation Worship not only sings of God’s power, but also of God’s power made evident through our own faith. In Scripture, Jesus talks about the power of God being seen through the belief of people like us.
Bible Study
Read Mark 11:20-23. Discuss:
• What does Jesus say is possible through our faith?
• Do you have a faith like that?
• Have you made a tree wither and die, or a mountain move?
• Ever had something happen simply because you asked God for it?
• What does this say about God’s character?
Read 1 Peter 1:3-6. Discuss:
• What does this passage suggest of God’s character?
• What does God offer through our faith?
• What do you think it means to be “shielded” by God’s power?
• Have you ever felt that your faith in God protected you from something?
Wrap Up
God is all-powerful; there’s no question about that. Because of God’s love for us, through faith we find God’s mercy, love, and peace. But God isn’t reluctant to display His power and greatness when the situation calls for it: like when Jesus cursed the fig tree, or expelled the demons from the possessed, or when He calmed the storm. Here we see evidence of God’s power and might.
Through faith we also have the ability to make God’s power evident today. Much like the disciples could, our faith has the power to move mountains, to heal the sick, and to drive out demons. Consider your faith and what others may see of God through the life you lead. God’s power and might is visible in so many things, but how much more powerful it is when WE are the living examples of God to those around us.
