Theme(s): God's: Power
Theme
God’s Power
Objective
In this session your students will be challenged to identify, understand, and use the power of God.
Warm Up
Who’s Stronger – In this game you will identify (or projected on presentation software) two forces and your students will vote which one is stronger. Examples include Batman vs. Superman, Monster vs. Red Bull, One Direction vs. One Republic, Twitter vs. Instagram, Sr. Pastor vs. Youth Pastor, etc.
Transition
After you have played a few rounds say something like, “We are going to talk about something stronger than ____________ (List a few from the winning list). We are going to talk about the strongest force in existence!”
The Song
Say, “Rapture Ruckus is a very cool group of guys from New Zealand that has been making music for over a decade. And while they are somewhat new to the States, they know how to bring the ruckus! This song features Brad from Rapture Ruckus and their good ‘mate’ Jonathan Thulin. Let’s listen to this very cool song together.” Play the song.
Transition
Break into small groups.
Bible Study
Go through these instructions:
• Go around and share your name and if you could only have one super power, what would it be?
• While those are all very cool answers, especially ____________ (fill in with a couple of your favorites), we actually do have some power inside us. Just like in the song, and just like a volcano, that power is often dormant inside us—just waiting for us to take a step of faith.
• What do you think really happens when people allow God’s power to work in their lives?
• How would you describe the Power of God—what does it look like?
Read Colossians 1:16. Ask: “According to this passage, what is God powerful enough to do?”
Read 2 Peter 1:3-4. Ask:
• According to this passage, why has God given us His power?
• How would you describe God’s power in your life?
• What do you think would happen if you took that step of faith?
• How could your home benefit from you becoming a “volcano”?
• What would change in your school if you were a “volcano”?
• How would your friends react to you being a “volcano”?
• How would this small group and youth group change if we were all “volcanoes”?
Wrap Up
Say, “God’s power is so real and so awesome. He has given it to us, and He wants us to use it—not to let it just sit dormant inside us. I challenge you to burn bright in the night sky—just like a volcano! Go out and experience His power in and through you!” Close in prayer.
