Objective
Your group will have an opportunity to explore some of God’s Promises.

Warm Up
Show a large picture of something in nature (a flower, a tree, a sunset, a waterfall, etc.) If you are able, have the group look out a window and focus on a scene in nature. Have the students make a list of some of the things that come to mind and then share their lists with the rest of the group.

Transition
When we look at something in nature, there are so many things that we can pick up and notice. As we listen to this song, write down some of your thoughts.

The Song
Listen to “Oh Blessed” by Stu G. If you’d like your musicians to learn the song so your group can sing it together, you can show them this tutorial video.

Transition
Ask, “As you listened to the song, what were some things that stuck out to you?” This would be a good place to play the devotional video by Stu G found here.

Bible Study
Read Matthew 5:1-2
  • Who was Jesus with?
  • What were some of the things Jesus did?
Read the following verses. After each one discuss these questions:
  • Who is mentioned?
  • What is promised?
  • What might this look like today?
Matthew 5:3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10-12

Read Matthew 5:13-16 and discuss:
  • How does this passage describe you?
  • According to verse 16, what should our actions lead to?
Wrap Up
In this study, we looked at several promises that God gives. In each example, we see qualities that God blesses. Each of these qualities can be seen in Christ’s life. Each of these qualities should be seen in our lives as followers of Christ. Think of one or two of these qualities that you need to make stronger. Ask God to help you to better develop these qualities in your own life. Connect with a leader, friend or family member to help you in this. Thank God we don’t have to do this all alone.
