When you were a baby, you could not feed yourself. Standing or walking seemed to be a difficult task. But as you grew, things became easier. You moved from crawling to standing to walking. You learned to tie your shoes. You learned how to run.
Learning those things did not happen right away. Sometimes, even often, failure happens before success. Even then, once you learn something doesn’t always mean you always get it, but you are better than you were before.
The song, “Thunder” by Imagine Dragons” talks about some of the negatives in the songwriter’s past. He also talks about the change over time where he has succeeded.
This song brings up the illustration of thunder and lightning. Thunder is the sound that is made from lightning. When watching a thunderstorm, you see the lighting first and then hear the thunder later. That happens because sound travels slower than light.
In our own lives, sometimes it takes a while for us to see or measure change. Often the results we want, like power or growth, require time and perseverance.
Ephesians 4:11-15 talks about growth and maturity. When we make time and effort with God and others, we are promised growth. How we handle life’s circumstances and what we focus on will change.
