Objective
Students will see Christ calls us to be the outcast. While the world may see it was a bad thing, it is exactly what Christ calls us to be for him!
Warm Up
Deathball – Watch here for rules and how to play: https://www.youtube. com/watch?v=X58X5d4BCl0
Transition
• While you were the outcast in the middle, how did it feel?
• Were you always trying to get out of the middle?
• Were you afraid of getting hurt?
• Did you ever think about hurting someone else?
Unfortunaly most of us have felt this way before. Like we are the odd one out, being made fun of, having everyone and everything coming at us to make us the outcast.
The Video
Pass out a piece of paper to each student. Have them write everything NF says makes him an outcast: I make songs, I don’t make friends, judge me | I like space I don’t fit in the crowds | But I will tell you if I don’t like you | You got a problem with the fans? There’s the door | You lookin’ for the old me? Check the morgue | They laughin’, they tell me I’ll never get out | I’m just tryna be me, I am nobody else | I don’t care what you think, I’m just bein’ myself | Yeah, I guess I don’t fit the mold of rap | ’Cause I’m respectin’ women | I’m a weird person with a weird crowd | Comin’ from a town where nobody hears a rap like this
Transition
Ask, “What are some of the ways NF says he has been an outcast? Have you ever felt any of these things? Maybe like you didn’t fit in in the town you are from? Maybe you don’t like crowds? Maybe making friends is hard for you? Most of us have been through times where we felt like we were an outcast. But let’s look at the Bible and see what Christ had to say about being an outcast."
Bible Study
Discuss:
• What are some of the things you have done to fit in? (Bought certain clothes; Hung out with certain people; Went certain places; Did certain things)
• How did you feel when you did things just to fit in?
• What are some of the things NF does that makes him an outcast in the rap world? (Doesn’t do drugs; Doesn’t disrespect women in his lyrics; Doesn’t cuss in his songs)
Read Romans 12:2.
• What do we learn in this verse?
• Like NF we are called to be different (outcast) – God calls us to not copy the behaviors of this world (ungodly). We are to follow God, to be like Christ.
Read John 15:18-20.
• What does Christ say if the world hates you?
•The world hated Jesus, as His followers can we expect anything else?
• Who do we belong to, this world or Jesus?
• Listen to this part: “A servant is not greater than his Master.” What does this say to you?
• Is it your job to be popular, or is it your job to be a follower of Christ?
• What does this mean to you?
Read Matthew 16:25-27.
• What does Jesus tell us?
• Where do we end up if we gain the whole world but lose our souls?
Wrap Up
It is easy to get deceived by this world, to get lied to and pulled in to fitting in. However, Christ didn’t come so we could fit in. He came to set us apart to make us His. He wants us to take a stand to follow Him to be the difference. NF is setting himself apart from the rap industry by taking a stand and being different, doing and being who God called him to be. It isn’t easy, it’s not popular. However it is worth the cost to be the outcast! Someday we will come face-to-face with our Savior and He won’t ask us, “Did you get to sit with the cool kids at lunch? Did you get invited to all the right parties? Did you wear the best clothes?” No, He is going to know our hearts, He will know if we followed the crowd or if we followed Him! Embrace the outcast, run to Jesus!
