Objective
Understand that God desires to use His people to reach a lost world.
Warm Up
GIF Time! – Have the students use their smartphones to locate either photos, memes, or GIFs to represent key ideas and words found on their Student Guide. Once they locate those, and if possible, have them share with the group one word at a time what they have found. (Ex: those that found a pic, GIF, or meme that represents hope, share those before moving on to another theme.) Let you group decide on who had the best representation.
Transition
Explain that being a Christian isn’t just getting saved and then taking it easy until you go to heaven. It means becoming part of a huge plan that God has for His world. He uses ordinary people like you and I to accomplish His will. We are given the message of life to share with others.
The Video
Play the video of Mass Anthem’s “Through People Like Me.”
Bible Study
Let’s take a look at how one of God’s greatest prophets felt about reaching out to the world. Read Isaiah 6:1-8. Isaiah saw a vision about heaven. What he saw probably overwhelmed him. What did he see? (God on His throne, a long train from His robe, seraphs, the temple, smoke, booming voices, etc.) List them on your Student Guide.
Ask how your students would have felt seeing something like that. What impression would it make on them? Isaiah knew he was not worthy to see this or be in God’s presence. (vs.5) Many times we feel unworthy to be in the presence of God, but He still wants us. We feel unworthy to be used by Him. Under Excuse Time on your guides, write down what excuses you, and others, might give God for not wanting to be involved. Discuss the answers. God wants us involved with His plan. He wants us to go and help others and share the good news of Christ.
In verses 6 and 7, one of the seraphs came to Isaiah and touched his lips with a coal from the fires of heaven and told him two very important things: that his guilt is taken away and his sins had been forgiven. If
Isaiah felt unworthy to do anything for God before, he could start anew because God took away the guilt of the past and forgave his sins.
God has done the same for us. Because of what Christ has done for us at Calvary, our sins have been forgiven. All that guilt we once carried around about not pleasing God and failing Him has been taken away.
Isaiah could do anything for God because of what God did for him. We can do anything for God because of what He has done for us. He is the same God! Isaiah 1:18 (NLT) says, “Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.” God has made you new!
So, when God asks, “Whom should I send?” we can answer, “Hey God, send me!” God will go before us and stay with us all the way. Anything is possible with Him.
Wrap Up
Begin to think about what type of service project you and your group can accomplish in your community. Getting involved is the best way to know what God is doing. Brainstorm some opportunities that can be done and decide what one(s) your group would like to take on. Plan on doing at least one project in the next few months. Maybe your church is already involved with community service – get the youth working side-by-side with rest of the church members. This will allow for your students to see what it means to go for the Lord and make a difference.
