Objective
Students will be able to firmly declare that God will chase after their heart no matter the circumstance, always and forever.
Warm Up
Play the video called “SUPERMAN DADS” (https://youtu.be/_b86NK39POQ)
Transition
Ask the students about the general theme of the video they just watched. Explain that a father’s love for a child is “reckless” in the sense that dads will go to the ends of the earth to know you are safe and loved.
The Video
“Reckless Love” is a display of fearlessness from God in His pursuit of our hearts. This video declares that there is no height nor depth that He won’t go to bring us to Him. Our goal is to praise Him with thankfulness and confidence, that His love will never run dry. Play the video and ask the students to write down words/phrases in the lyrics that stick out to them.
Transition
Ask if the students if they can recollect any passages in the Bible that describe God’s love as “reckless.” Do they feel that God can really be “reckless” in His pursuit of us?
Bible Study
Read these Scriptures and ask the questions that follow.
Luke 15:1-7 “The Parable of the Lost Sheep”
- When have you experienced something like the Pharisees grumbling about Jesus “receiving sinners and eating with them”?
- Why would the shepherd leave the ninety-nine sheep to find the lost one?
- Why is one sinner who will repent more important than all those who need no repentance?
Luke 15:11-32 “The Parable of the Prodigal Son”
- Why would the father receiving the Prodigal Son back into his home be considered “reckless”?
- Why wouldn’t the dad care regarding the consequences of what could happen by accepting the son back into his house?
- Have you experienced seeing someone help another person without hesitation, even if it might have been met with consequences?
Romans 8:38-39
- Have you ever felt as though a barrier was between you and God?
- Why is God willing to go to any height or depth to pursue us?
- What does God ask of us in response to His pursuit of us?
Wrap Up
God has always and will always pursue us with His power and unwavering love. It’s our job to fully accept Him into our hearts and be filled with thankfulness. Our role is also to confidently explain to others that He will come after the one sinner who knows he or she needs to repent. We couldn’t earn it, and we don’t deserve it, but He still gives Himself away to us. End in prayer.
