Objective
Students will be reminded that only God can provide for their every need and only God provides salvation.
Warm Up
- Ask students to share something that they feel is unique to only them.
- Ask them what they feel sets them apart from others. Not making them better, just unique.
- Share your own story about what you feel is unique to you. Something you feel you can do that no one else can do.
- Ask students if they know what is unique about God.
Transition
Share with the students that there is something very specific that sets God apart from every other being. While other people are able to do the things we do, God is different. There is something only He can do. Let’s watch the music video.
The Video
Hand out the Student Guides. Encourage students to listen to the video carefully. Have them write down any words or phrases that catch their attention. Ask them to focus on words or phrases that speak to being different.
Transition
Ask students to share the words or phrases they have written down. Ask them to explain why those phrases caught their attention. Be prepared to share your own list to give them an example.
Bible Study
Pass out Bibles. Say, “Let’s look at some phrases from the video.” (Ask students if they have any phrases they would like to share as well).
- What does the singer mean when he says, “What is this love that won’t relent?”
- What does the word “relent” mean? (To relent implies to soften or become less severe.)
- Say, “Lincoln is saying that God’s love won’t soften or leave. There is never a time when God’s love for us is not strong or intense.”
Romans 8:35; Psalm 136:2 – Why does Lincoln Brewster say that grace makes no sense? How would you define grace? Grace can be defined as getting something we are not deserving of. Grace doesn’t make sense because we simply aren’t deserving of it.
Romans 3:23 – According to this verse we do not deserve God’s love because we are all sinners.”
Romans 5:8 – Do you understand now how grace makes no sense? We, who are not worthy of God’s love because we are sinners, have been shown grace. Not because we have earned it. But because God loves us.
Say, “Let’s read the next few verses together about salvation.” Ask for volunteers to read these verses aloud to the group – Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; 1 John 5:11-13
Wrap Up
Ask, “What do all of these verses about salvation have in common?”
Say, “Each verse states clearly that there is no other way to salvation except through Jesus Christ, God in the flesh. The unique thing that only God can do is give us eternal life. There have been others through the years that have claimed they had this same power, but according to the Bible, only God can provide this. There is no one like our God!”
Close in prayer.
