Objective
Students will learn that Jesus is powerful enough to help them with everything in their lives. The challenge many students face is not knowing how to tap into the power of God. This video and youth meeting will help any listener understand that He is powerful and can help with any and all situations.

Warm Up
Bring something to the group session that has to be plugged in, i.e. lamp, fan, clock. Without plugging the item into the power source:
  • Ask a student to turn it on.
  • Ask someone to explain the item’s purpose.
  • Ask someone why the item isn’t working.
Hopefully you will get the obvious answers: the item isn’t working or fulfilling its purpose because it isn’t plugged in. The purpose of the item cannot be carried out without some sort of power source. Plug the item in and ask the questions again. Take note of how different the responses are.

Transition
Like that item that has no power and cannot work properly without it, we cannot fulfill our God-given purpose and find power for everyday living if we are not connected to the power source: God. Without Him we cannot experience the full extent of what God intended for us. Unless we are connected to Him, our power source, we will not be all that we were created to be. God wants us to understand that we need Him, that His power is available to us, and it makes all the difference in us and those around us.

While the video is being played, ask the students to think about their situation and what Jesus can help them with.

Transition
Pray that God will guide your time together, that He will challenge each of you to go deeper into your purpose and to reflect upon, “how do we understand and access God’s power?”

Bible Study
Hand out the Student Guides. Use this outline to teach the Bible Study, and encourage the students to take notes. Encourage group discussion when answering the questions.

He is a Powerful God – God created the world by the power of His words (Genesis 1:1; Romans 1:20) and He continues to uphold the world by His powerful hands (Hebrews 1:3). Have the students list the power of God, below are some examples that can be used to describe the power of God.
  • No boundaries to His blessing.
  • No fences withholding His faithfulness.
  • No lines drawn separating us from His salvation.
  • No guardrails against His grace.
  • No containers holding His compassion.
  • No restrictions to experiencing His righteousness.
  • He has the power to redeem humankind. (Luke 1:35, 37; Ephesians 1:19)
  • He has the power to work miracles. (Luke 9:43)
  • He has the power to calm any storm.
  • He has the power to heal the sick.
  • He has the power to raise the dead.
  • He has the power to deliver you.
  • He has the power to sustain you.
  • He has the power to take care of any problem you send His way.
He is an Empowering God  (2 Timothy 1:7)
Five Steps to Receiving His Strength
  1. Affirm God’s power and His presence (1Chronicles 16:11-12)
  2. Admit your own weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9)
  3. Align yourself with God’s will (John 15:5-7)
  4. Ask God for the power that you need (James 4:2)
  5. Act out of obedience to God (1 Peter 5:6-7)
Even when we don’t feel empowered by God, when we act by obediently proceeding down the road that God wants us to walk, He will give us strength as strength is needed.

Wrap Up
What does God see when He looks at you? Does He see someone who is timid? Afraid? Cowardly? Beaten down? Under an incredible weight of pressure to the point you’re cracking under it? Does He see someone who gives in so readily to temptation that you don’t even put up a fight anymore? Does He see someone who knows the right thing to do but you just cannot bring yourself to do the right thing? Does He see someone whose faith, if you had a gauge of faith, it would be registering way, way down toward zero? What does God see as He looks at you right now?

You really need to know and understand that God does not just see you for who you are. God sees you for who you will become if day by day you walk through these five steps and you receive the strength and the power of God to follow the path that He has for your life.
