Song: Greatness Of Our God
From: MVL 104
Writer: Keith Jones | First Baptist Church | Centralia, Missouri

Theme(s): God's: Greatness

Objective
Students will discover that the greatness of God, our creator, is central to every aspect of our lives, not just church; and we should acknowledge and worship His greatness.

Warm Up
Simon Says – The object is to crown the “greatest” Simon Says player of all time in your group. Be sure that as your numbers dwindled, that your commands get faster and more complicated. Play until you have crowned your champion and declared them the G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time) of Simon Says.

Transition
Ask your students to give characteristics of what makes someone the G.O.A.T. Ask them to identify people that they believe are the G.O.A.T. in their specific fields (i.e. Michael Jordan, JK Rowling, or Harrison Ford). What did they do to earn this title?

Discuss what makes God the Greatest of All Time. Don’t let them take the easy way out and say something simple – have them explain it, in detail, so they begin to grasp just how great He really is. Hand out the Student Guides.

The Video
In this video, the Newsboys have come together to form Newsboys UNITED with members from the band present and past to declare the greatness of God in this video. In a very moving video, the Newsboys use very strong descriptions in order to illustrate just how great God is. Have the students watch the video and write down words and phrases used to describe the greatness of God in the section called Greatness.

Transition
Encourage your students to share the words they wrote down and ask them to explain why they chose those words.

Bible Study
Have the students read Psalm 86:8-10 individually as a quiet time and answer the question: Do you believe that God’s greatness is central to everything and all life? Why? Have them write their response in the section titled Quiet Time. Come back and discuss their answers.

Next, have the students read Psalm 145. Then have them identify all the ways David praises the Lord. Then have them write down what that kind of praise would look like in their lives today if we truly acknowledged God’s greatness. They can write their responses in the space under title No One Else.

Wrap Up
Have your students write a prayer of promise to God. Ask them to be honest and aware of their shortcomings but ask them to make honest attempts to magnify the greatness of God every day. Walk with them through this process in what that would look like for them.
