Theme(s): Growth
Objective
Students will learn how to “reset” with God.
Warm Up
Have you ever been in a situation where you are working on a school project or surfing YouTube, and the computer or tablet goes dead?
NO! We scream as we look for the charger. It is like our whole world comes crashing in. Then we plug it in and wait for enough charge to continue. We power it on and hope our computer remembered where we were!
Transition
There is a scenario like this in the Bible! Paul and Silas are preaching and telling people about Jesus, and they get thrown into jail. But before they go in, they are beaten then put in stocks so their feet can’t move.
No, they had no social media, so what would they do? Plead to get out? Bribe one of the guards? Complain? No! Instead, they start singing songs. I know this is the first thing I would do if I was in their place, right?!
Paul and Silas had everything go wrong that day. They ‘reset’ their hearts and lives and aligned them with the Lord’s by singing!
The Video
KJ-52 has been around for many years, but he can still put out a good rhyme. Watch his video and see if you can catch the reboot or reset he sings about.
Play the music video for “Glory to God” by KJ-52.
Bible Study
Paul and Silas are doing everything right. But they come to Philippi, and the town goes wild. They proceed to grab Paul and Silas and throw them before the officials.
The officials beat them with rods, and the city joins in with their fists! To make sure they were hurting, they ordered them to be kept secure.
Read Acts 16:23-25
They reset and praise God. God responds and opens all the chains and doors with an earthquake. Paul, Silas, and the others are free. They stay where they are as they see the events from God. He gave them a reset. Now they are going to use it.
The rest of the chapter tells how the chief guard saw this, and they led him to Jesus! He repented and was baptized with his whole house. Then he cleaned their wounds and fed them.
Wrap Up
You and I will probably never be thrown in jail and have an earthquake that frees us. But we are faced with things that go bad almost daily. We have a choice; we can reset with God or continue going downhill.
How you and I do this is simple- we talk to Jesus and let Him know that we messed up. We ask Him to forgive us and ask to restart.
John 1:9 states: “He (Jesus) is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all wrongs.”
If you are not a follower of Jesus, you can also ask for a reset. Ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and admit to Jesus that He is over your life.
Now, tell someone and ask them for a Bible!
