Theme(s): Hope Trust Evangelism

Objective
Students will discover that God provides eternal hope and is faithful to provide all that they need, so they can trust Him completely.

Warm Up
Trust Circle – Divide students into circles of 10-15. Have students put their left hand towards the middle of the circle as you turn sideways, then drop your hand. As a group, simultaneously, take one step, sideways, towards the middle of the circle. Repeat this until they are almost touching chest to back.

Place your hands on the waist of the person in front of you. Now, on the count of 3, slowly sit on the knees of the person behind you. 1… 2… 3!

The Video
Just like for many of us it is challenging to trust others, it is also difficult to trust God sometimes. As we watch this video, pay close attention to ways we can be encouraged to trust God.

Bible Study
Read 1 Peter 1:3-9

  • The first verse of this song states that “hope is never gone.”
  • Based on this passage of scripture, how do we know that this is true?

Read Romans 8:28

  • In the second verse of this song, it states “Hold on tight to what you know He promised, He won’t let you go.”
  • How does the Scripture verse confirm this statement?

Read 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

  • In the chorus and third verse, it talks about our weaknesses.
  • How does this Scripture teach us to handle our weaknesses?

Read Philippians 3:12-14

  • In what ways is the chorus of the song exemplified in this Scripture?

Wrap Up
Since the first verse of this song is a perfect depiction of salvation and since God is in all stories, let’s use the 3 Story Method to present the Gospel to our unsaved friends.

Ask people to tell you THEIR STORY, then tell them YOUR STORY (Testimony), and finally tell them GOD’S STORY (Gospel).

Their Story

Listen to their story by asking them questions about their favorite sports, extracurricular activities at school, family, job, etc.

  • What do you think is the meaning of life?
  • What do you think happens after you die?
  • What do you know about Jesus?

Your Story

Use the last question to transition into what you know about Jesus. Tell your story in a way to connect with the other person. In most settings, it should be 2-3 minutes long and cover these 3 things

  • What were you like before you came to faith in Jesus?
  • What truth did you discover about Jesus? (include Where, How, & When)
  • How has that discovery changed your life?

God’s Story

Use whatever form of the Gospel that you are most familiar with: The Roman Road, The One-Verse Method (Romans 6:23, John 3:16), The Bridge, The Four Spiritual Laws, The Gospel in Your Hand, Steps to Peace with God, Life In 6 Words, etc.

At the end of your presentation of the Gospel, explain that God forgives those who Believe (trust) that Jesus, the Son of God, died for them, Repent of (turn away from) their sins, and Choose (turn to) Jesus as their Lord and Savior, by faith.

God removes the penalty of their sin and gives them the right to become His children and experience eternity in paradise (Heaven). His Spirit changes them from the inside out, enabling them to live a life that honors Him.

  • Are you ready? Is this what you would like to do?

If they say yes, lead them in prayer.

Sample “Repeat After Me” Prayer: Jesus, please forgive me of my sins (repeat) and give me the gift of eternal life (repeat). Right now, I turn from my sins (repeat) and put my faith and trust in You, Jesus (repeat) as my Savior and Lord (repeat). Be the King of my life, Jesus (repeat). Thank You for saving me (repeat)! I pray this in Your name, Jesus (repeat). Amen
