Theme(s): God's: Greatness

Objective
In this study, your students will learn that God is greater than everything and deserved to be praised.

Warm Up
Play Back and Forth – This game can be played by bringing two students up on stage or having everyone pair off.

Head-to-Head: The two students will turn and face each other and the game leader will give them a category and say, “ready, set, go!”

The students take turns listing items in the category. If an answer is repeated or a student cannot give a valid answer in 5 seconds, they lose, and that round is over.
All-Play: Have everyone find a partner and follow the same rules. The loser of each round sits down and the winner finds a new partner. Bring the last two on stage for the epic final showdown.

List of possible categories: Pizza toppings, Ice cream flavors, Superheroes, Cereals, Bands, Cartoons, Holidays, Presidents, States, etc.
On the final round use the category “Things that God is greater than.”

Transition
The reality is all those categories have a limited number of responses, but not the last one. The truth is God is greater than EVERYTHING! And today, we are going to look at that truth.

The Video
As the video plays, try to write down as many of the things they say God is greater than in the song.
(perfect sunrise, oceans deep, highest mountain, everything, all expectations, my wildest dreams, my comprehension, the world I see)

Play the music video for “Greater” by Planetshakers.

Transition

  • What did you think of the song?
  • Which lyrics stood out the most?

Bible Study
Fill in the following blanks with some of your students’ favorites.

The song tells us that God is greater than __________. The question we need the answer to is, “Does the Bible say He is greater than __________?”

Read Jeremiah 10:6, Psalm 96:4, Psalm 147:5, and 1 Chronicles 29:11

  • So what do you think? Does the Bible say God is greater than everything?

As I read this next Scripture, fill in the blanks on your Student Guide.

Read Isaiah 55:8-9

  • What does this passage tell us about our thoughts and God’s thoughts?
  • And what does it tell us about our ways and His ways?
  • How do you feel hearing that?
  • Have you ever asked God, “Why is this happening to me?” or “Why is that happening to them?” (Of course you have, we all have.)

If we’re being honest, most of the time it doesn’t make sense. And a lot of the times the thing we are asking about is causing pain for us or someone we love. We want to know why bad things happen to good people. We want to know why we struggle with hurt, depression, anxiety, or bitterness. The truth is we don’t know why and we don’t understand. But God does. Remember, our thoughts are not His thoughts, and our ways are not His ways. God is greater than EVERYTHING!

Wrap Up
Let’s listen to the song again, this time I want you to insert yourself into the song, and ask, “Is God greater than what I am facing? Is He greater than what I am dealing with?” Turn your reflection into a closing prayer as you fill in the final blank on your Student Guide.

God,
I believe you are greater than __________. Thank you, Father. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

You can say that prayer all day, every day, because it is true. He is Greater than EVERYTHING!
