Artist: Brinson
Album: Throw The Crown
Label: GodChaserz Entertainment
Song: Faith In The Sky
From: MVL 118
Writer: Brandon Best | Oakwood Church | New Braunfels, Texas

Objective
The participants will learn that faith takes a certain mindset that looks above.

Warm Up
Ask several participants to the front of the room to answer “Questions That Will Mess With Your Mind!”

Divide the participants into two even teams; each forming a single-file line on either side of you. As you read each question, hold out your hand to be a “buzzer” for the participant that answers first.

Rotate the participants for each new question. The side with the most right answers wins.

Questions That Will Mess With Your Mind
Q: If you build a fort, drive a Ford, and fill out a form, then what do you eat soup with?
A: A spoon.

Q: You have two coins that equal 30 cents, and one of them is not a quarter. Which coins do you have?
A: A quarter and a nickel. The nickel is the one that isn’t a quarter.

Q: What is the answer to this question?
A: “What”

Q: If the assistant captain of a sports team were to die, who would lead the team?
A: The captain.

Q: If Mrs. Smith’s rooster lays an egg in Mr. Brown’s yard, who owns the egg?
A: No one; roosters don’t lay eggs.

Q: If you’re running in a race and you pass the person in 3rd place, what place are you now in?
A: 3rd place.

Transition

  • In what ways can your mind play tricks on you?
  • How can your mindset help you or hinder you?
  • What is significant about your mind and your faith?
  • How important is it to know God’s truth?
  • How do we set our minds on the things of God?

The Video
Play the “Faith In The Sky” music video by Brinson.

Transition

  • In a world with many voices and influencers, how can we keep our minds set on things above?

Bible Study
Read Colossians 3:1-4

  • What does it mean to be raised with Christ?
  • If you have been raised with Christ, share when and how this happened.
  • What things “which are above” is Paul referring to?
  • How can we seek those things?
  • How should we set our minds on the things that are above?
  • What will our lives look like if we are doing this?
  • What will our lives look like if we are setting our mind on the things on Earth?
  • What does it mean that your life is hidden with Christ in God?
  • How does verse 4 connect topically with the previous verses?

Read Isaiah 55:8-9

  • How does God contrast His thoughts and ways with ours?
  • When is it helpful to remind ourselves that God’s ways are not our ways?
  • Why is it good for believers to think about what life will be like when God’s purposes are accomplished?

Wrap Up
We are reminded that followers of Christ must focus on “things that are above.”

In fact, the thoughts of the Lord are higher and greater than our thoughts here on Earth. We must look above in the sky to truly grow our faith.

  • Concerning what particular problem will you pray for God’s perspective this week?
