Objective
To educate students about revival and equip them to prepare for it through prayer and being in the Word.

Warm Up

“Azusa” by Bay Area Christian Hip-Hop artist, Miles Minnick, refers to a historical revival meeting that continued from 1906 to 1915 called the Azusa Street Revival. Led by William Seymour, an African American preacher, people in Los Angeles, California experienced powerful times of musical worship, prayer, miracles, and speaking in tongues. Differences didn’t matter, whether it was race, gender, economic status, age, etc. All were present and invited to participate. It was an incredible, unifying moment in America’s history!

  • Have you heard of the Azusa Street Revival before? If so, what have you heard?
  • Can anyone define the word “revival?”
  • Have you ever experienced something like the Azusa Street Revival?
  • If yes, what was it like? If not, does it sound like something you’d want to be a part of?

Transition
If we look at the root of the word “Revive” - “re” means “again” and the root verb “vivere” means “to live.” Christ’s followers start to really live again like God intended for us to live when it is revived. The Church (all Christians in all kinds of churches) gets right with God. It gets cleaned up. Skeletons come out of the closet, enemies become friends, sins are brought to light and people are healed! This healing can be spiritual, emotional, mental, physical, or relational.

The Video
This song paints a picture of what revival can look like in our day!

  • What are your initial thoughts?
  • What words or phrases stood out to you?
  • What does the song say to you about revival?

Transition
Think of the issues you, your family, your school, and your friends face. Our world is broken and in need of fixing. Jesus is the Solution. He wants to bring new life to His followers so they can continue to share the solution with the world!

Bible Study
Read 2 Chronicles 7:14
To experience revival, God’s people must humble themselves, pray, seek His face, and repent of their sins.

  • Who are God’s people?
  • What does it mean to seek God’s face? How can we do this in our daily lives?
  • How does humility relate to revival? Why is it important to be humble before God?
  • How can we turn away from our wicked ways and seek to live a more righteous life?

Read 1 Peter 2:9
Christ’s followers are a chosen and holy people set apart for God’s purposes, empowered to share the Good News of salvation with others.

  • Do we need to be humble to pray for revival?
  • What is the difference between praying humbly vs. praying pridefully?
  • What does it mean to seek God’s face?
  • What wicked ways does the Church as a whole need to turn and repent from?
  • How can someone turn from their wicked ways?

Read James 5:16
Believers should confess their sins to one another and pray for each other, so that they may be healed.

  • Why is confession important for revival?
  • How can we create a culture of confession within our communities?
  • How does the idea of healing relate to revival? In what ways do we need healing as individuals and as a community?
  • How do you want to see God restore our land?
