Objective
In the world we live in, we need people in our lives who will fight for us. We also need to be willing to fight for ourselves. Most importantly, we need to allow God to fight for us.
Warm Up
Keep ’Em Flying – Blow up four balloons and have one of your students try to keep all four balloons in the air for 60 seconds. Be sure to throw the balloons up so keeping them in the air is difficult. (You cab use more balloons to ensure the difficulty.) After everyone has struggled or failed, start letting them do the challenge in pairs until they are able to keep all the balloons from touching the ground until time is called.
Transition
Ask your students why the Keep ’Em Flying challenge was hard to do alone. Then ask them made it easier to do when they had help. Talk about how much easier it is to deal with the challenges life throws at us every day when we have people who are willing to not only fight alongside of us, but also fight for us. This is especially true of our Lord.
In this video, GAWVI tells the story of how we need people to fight for us. How we need people to guide us and if need be correct us when we get confused or go down a path that is destructive. He shows the pitfalls that life throws at us and it becomes very clear that there are times in our lives when we need people to step in for us- most importantly God. Have the students watch the video and write down situations they may be familiar with in the section on their Student Guide titled The Ring.
Transition
As you transition to the study, allow your students to share about situations that seemed very familiar to them and how they have needed people and God to step in and fight for them.
Bible Study
Read each passage and then have the students discuss the answers to the questions and write them down in the Armor section.
Ask a volunteer to read Galatians 6:1-5. Discuss these questions about the passage.
- How should we restore our brothers and sisters when they fall?
- Why do you think Paul tells the people to bear one another’s burdens?
- What happens when we tackle problems together instead of alone?
- How does having someone holding you accountable help your spiritual growth?
Have someone read Ephesians 6:10-18 and discuss these questions.
- Why does this passage want us to put on the “whole” armor of God?
- Who does verse 12 warn us about? Do we stand a chance without God?
- What are the pieces of the armor?
- How does this armor protect us from schemes of the evil one?
- How can we encourage each other to use this armor?
Wrap Up
Talk with your students about accountability partners and the importance of having one. Encourage the students to become accountability partners and check on each other. Equip your students with ways in which they can fight for their brother or sister in Christ especially when their partner is struggling.
