Leader Guide

Artist: Lecrae
Album: Church Clothes 4
Label: Reach Records
Song: Spread The Opps
From: MVL 119
Writer: Rob Brower | South Sound Church | Olympia, Washington

Objective
Students will understand the spiritual battle they face and be equipped with the knowledge and tools to approach their struggles with spiritual weapons, recognizing their victory in Jesus Christ and living as redeemed children of God.

Warm Up

Blindfolded Maze Tag – Play in as large a space as makes sense for the size of your group. Get two student volunteers: a maze Runner (who will be blindfolded) and their Guide. They will be on opposite ends of the space. Spread the remaining students throughout the space. If needed add obstacles that are already at your disposal like tables, chairs, etc.

On “Go” the Guide must use verbal commands to direct the blindfolded Runner to them avoiding obstacles. If the Runner is tagged by any students (who must remain stationary) they are out. To make it more challenging have several teams going simultaneously.

  • Runners, how did it feel to be blindfolded and have to rely solely on verbal commands?
  • Guides, how did it feel to successfully guide the Runner to safety?
  • How does this game relate to the idea of spiritual warfare and how we may encounter opposition or need guidance in our faith journey?
  • How did the power of communication and teamwork come into play during the game, and how does it relate to our spiritual walk with others?

Transition
Lecrae’s song “Spread The Opps” is a call to action to spread the message of the Gospel and fight against spiritual warfare. He encourages listeners to use their voice to speak truth and challenge the lies that the enemy uses to deceive people.

Bible Study
The Scriptures remind us that our battle is not against other people, but against the spiritual forces of evil. A spiritual battle cannot be won with physical weapons.
Instead, we need to recognize the spiritual nature of our struggles and approach them with these spiritual weapons, which are powerful in God’s hands.

Read Ephesians 6:12

  • How does understanding that our struggles are not against flesh and blood change the way we approach conflict with others?
  • What spiritual weapons do we have at our disposal to fight against the spiritual forces of evil?
  • How can we better equip ourselves to recognize the spiritual nature of our struggles?

Read 2 Corinthians 10:3-4

  • What are some examples of spiritual strongholds in your life that need to be pulled down?
  • How can you use the spiritual weapons God has given you to defeat these strongholds?
  • In what ways can you lean on God’s strength and power in the midst of a spiritual battle?

Read Colossians 1:13-14
Through Jesus Christ, believers have been rescued from the power of sin and brought into God’s kingdom. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, we are forgiven and redeemed, no longer held captive by sin and death.

  • How does knowing that we have been rescued from the power of sin impact the way we live our lives?
  • What does it mean to live as a citizen of God’s kingdom, and how does this impact the way we interact with the world around us?
  • What are some practical ways we can strive to live out the forgiveness we have received through Jesus Christ in our daily lives?

Wrap Up
As you face challenges in your life, remember that you have access to the powerful weapons of prayer, worship, and faith in God’s promises. Trust in the victory that Christ has already won, and walk confidently in the freedom and redemption that He has provided.

  • In what ways can we support and pray for each other in our spiritual battles?
  • How can we stay connected to God and His Word to ensure we are using the weapons He has provided?
  • How can we encourage one another in our faith, reminding each other of the rescue and redemption we have in Jesus Christ?
